Wellness Tips From the Boss

I’ve always been interested in wellness, and people often ask me for my best tips. Of course, my single best tip is to keep the #suspicious6 as far away from your skincare routine as possible. But staying healthy is about more than what you put on your skin—it’s about your whole lifestyle.

So here, in no particular order, are the tips that I have stuck with over the years and have made a difference—in my skin, my sleep, my energy, and my mood. I hope these help you as much as they’ve helped me! xx TM

Stop with the sugar.

I eat fruit, but I never add sugar to my food. Syrup, jam, honey, sugar—as soon as I gave all that up, I felt better. I used to reach for chocolate-covered almonds every day at 4 p.m., but since I forced myself to stop, I’ve had more energy, and my skin has never been clearer.

Drink bovine collagen.

Bone broth is amazing. I’m 52, and I’ve noticed a real change—my hair feels thicker; my skin feels firmer. I don’t go a day without it.

Laini Latherless Conditioning Co-Cleanser.

I wasn’t going to mention my products, but I have to talk about Laini. I wash my hair with Laini every two to three days, and it’s never been shinier or healthier-looking. I’m not the straw man anymore—it’s incredible.

Wake up with hot water and lemon.

I’ve weaned myself off coffee and instead add pure stevia to hot water, squeeze in a bit of lemon, and that’s it. It’s a gentle way to get up that doesn’t jolt me awake, so I don’t have a post-coffee crash.

Drink less.

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but alcohol is just not good for you or your skin. I don’t drink at all during the week. (On Friday night, I’ll have a tequila soda—what we call ranch water in Texas.) Without alcohol in my system, I am way more hydrated and sleep better.

Add LMNT powder.

You add this powder to a large bottle of water to boost your electrolytes. You can’t get enough hydration, and this powder is amazing. It comes in all different flavors (and no, they’re not paying me to say this), and it makes drinking water a lot more enjoyable.

Walk more.

No matter how busy I am, I make a point of taking a long walk—without my phone!— every day. It clears my mind and helps me reset.
